Sunglasses are for a new nose

As the sun comes out during the summer months, so do the sunglasses. While the eyes are the windows to the soul, sunglasses can add a sense of mystery to what is behind them. But you don’t want the mystery to be ignored due to the bump on your nose or the crookedness of its angle. If you find that your nose is often what people look at first on your face, consider rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty, or aesthetic nasal surgery, improves the shape of the nose, and, therefore, its appearance. Removing a bump, straightening the angle, or enlarging or reducing the size of the nose are options with this procedure. Rhinoplasty can also be performed to reconstruct birth defects or to help people who have had breathing problems, due to sports injuries or deformities – such as a deviated septum.

Based on the structure or shape of your nose and face, Dr. Placik will be able to determine the level of improvement which needs to be done. These results can be as slight as a correction of the bump on your nose, to major improvements if the nose has been disfigured. The goal is to have a nose that blends naturally with the rest of your face and its profile. Because of this, you might be recommended to have an alteration done to your chin.

The rhinoplasty procedure can take up to two hours under general anesthesia. While discomfort may be moderate following a rhinoplasty, this is controlled with medication. Keeping your head elevated and applying cold compresses for a week will help. Though it depends on the level of the surgery, the healing can take six to twelve months before you are able to see the final results.
